Privacy
Privacy Policy
The short version. FootyStats has no accounts and no server of its own. Your squads, matches, statistics and photos stay on your device and, if you are signed into iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage — which we cannot read. There is no advertising, no tracking, and no analytics software of any kind in the app. The only thing that ever reaches us is the answer to one optional question during setup, and you can skip it.
Who is responsible
FootyStats is made and published by Vegard Halkjelsvik, an individual developer in Norway. The name and address shown on the App Store listing are the ones on file with Apple.
For anything in this policy, write to hello@footystatss.app.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter into FootyStats is stored on the device you entered it on:
- Teams, seasons and squads, including player names, shirt numbers and positions
- Photographs you add for a team or a player
- Matches, line-ups, and every statistic recorded during them
- Graphics you create, until you share or save them yourself
- Your settings and preferences
None of this is sent to us. There is no FootyStats account, no sign-in, and no server that holds a copy.
iCloud sync
If you are signed into iCloud on your device, FootyStats keeps your data in step across your own devices using Apple's CloudKit, in the private part of the app's iCloud container. Private means exactly that: it is tied to your Apple Account, and the developer of an app cannot read it. We have no way of seeing your squads, your matches or your photographs.
That data is held under Apple's privacy policy and your iCloud settings. You can turn iCloud off for FootyStats at any time in your device's Settings, under your name → iCloud. The app works fully with iCloud signed out; it simply stops syncing between devices.
The one thing we receive
During first-time setup, FootyStats asks one question: where you heard about the app. It is optional, it is asked once, and skipping it costs you nothing — no part of the app behaves differently either way.
If you answer, one record is written to the public part of the same iCloud container, which is the only part we can read. It contains:
- Which of the five options you chose
- An optional note, if you typed one (limited to 200 characters)
- The app's version number
- Your device's region and language settings, such as “NO” and “nb”
- The date and time you answered
We use this only to understand how coaches find the app. It is never used for advertising, never combined with data from anywhere else, and never sold or shared with anyone.
Why we call it pseudonymous rather than anonymous
Nothing we write into that record identifies you. But CloudKit adds an identifier of its own to every public record, tying it to the Apple Account that created it. It is an opaque value scoped to this app — not a name, not an email address, and not something we can resolve to a person — but it does mean two answers from the same Apple Account could in principle be linked. We would rather state that plainly than describe the answer as anonymous when it is not quite.
Photographs and the camera
FootyStats asks for camera and photo library access only when you choose to add a photo to a team or a player, and only to put that image into the app. Photos stay with the rest of your data: on your device, and in your own private iCloud if sync is on. They are never uploaded to us. You can refuse or withdraw the permission in Settings and keep using everything else.
Purchases
FootyStats Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether a purchase is active. We never see your card details, your billing address or your Apple Account. Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
What FootyStats never does
- No tracking. Nothing in the app is combined with third-party data for advertising or advertising measurement, and nothing is shared with a data broker. You will never see the “Allow tracking” prompt, because there is nothing to allow.
- No advertising. There are no adverts and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party software. The app has no analytics, crash-reporting, attribution or social SDKs. It is built on Apple's frameworks and nothing else.
- No selling of data. We have nothing to sell, and would not.
Players' details, including children
A grassroots squad often includes children, and coaches may enter their names, shirt numbers and photographs. That information is yours and stays where the rest of your data does — on your device and in your own iCloud. We never receive it and cannot see it.
Because it is your record of your squad, you decide what to enter and how long to keep it, and you are responsible for having the agreement of the players or their parents where your club or league requires it. Our advice is simple: add only what you actually need, and use photographs only where you have permission.
Your data, and getting rid of it
- Take it with you. Statistics → Players → Export Season Overview produces a CSV of every player's season, and a match-by-match export is available too.
- Delete it. Delete teams, seasons, matches or players inside the app. Deleting the app removes the data on that device; to remove the synced copy as well, turn FootyStats off under iCloud in your device settings and delete its iCloud data there.
- The referral answer. If you answered that one question and want the record removed, email us. It carries no name, so please say roughly when you answered and which option you chose so we can find it.
If you are in the UK or the EEA, you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability under the UK GDPR and the GDPR. For nearly everything in FootyStats those rights are in your own hands, because we hold nothing — but write to us and we will help however we can.
Keeping it
We keep referral answers for as long as they are useful for understanding how the app is found, and no longer than three years. Everything else is held by you, for as long as you want it.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that changes this policy, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top. If a change ever means the app collects something it did not collect before, it will be announced in the app rather than only here.
